FCE 5705 with new controller: All-in-one solution for precise nanoparticle counting
2025/09/22
Hamburg, 22.09.2025 – The GRIMM FCE 5705 with the new FCE controller is a reliable reference for nanoparticle counting in the digital era. Developed by the specialist team at GRIMM AEROSOL TECHNIK, a member of the DURAG GROUP, this faraday cup electrometer is designed for calibration labs, research institutions and quality control for environmental monitoring and emissions testing. The outstanding new features provide a cutting-edge measuring device. It offers global compatibility, requires no consumables, and allows full traceability to the international system of units, complying with ISO and EU standards.
Modular, ready-to-use system
“The FCE 5705 controller is designed to fit with all our FCE product generations, which facilitates easy upgrades and retrofits”, explains Gerhard Steiner, Product Manager and Senior Scientist at GRIMM AEROSOL TECHNIK. “This modular, ready-to-use system is a complete, all-in-one solution for quick setup and precise flow adjustment to the respective operating conditions.” The user-friendly operation is also based on a large touchscreen display that enables intuitive control, clear data visualization, and simple configuration. No consumables are required, which minimizes operating costs, and simplifies maintenance in terms of continuous, long-term use.
Meanwhile, traceable calibrations ensure consistent accuracy. The stand-alone functionality is due to the internal 32 GB memory; CSV download via USB enables easy data processing without an external PC connection. Respective calibration factors can be stored in the internal memory to ensure reliable, reproducible and traceable measurements. The extremely precise flow control with uncertainties of not more than ± 1.5% over the full flow rate range from 0.3 to 10 L/min, allows the minimizing of measurement uncertainties in particle number concentration, and therefore maximum data reliability. The wide power supply range from 110 to 240 V and 50/60 Hz is intended for global compatibility in various lab and industrial environments.
Fields of application
Intuitive control, clear data visualization, and easy configuration: with calibration factors storable in the instrument’s firmware and flow rate conditions being referable to the actual prevailing temperature and pressure conditions, the new FCE 5705 controller enables traceability to the international system of units, ensuring precise and reproducible measurements for aerosol science and nanotechnology applications. “FCE 5705 with the new FCE controller is therefore ideal for being used as a reference in national metrology institutes and other calibration laboratories,” emphasizes Gerhard Steiner.
The versatile use is based on the high time resolution data acquisition and individually adjustable sampling rates, which provide detailed insights for dynamic processes. A complete solution for quick setup and precise flow adjustment to operating conditions, while maintaining user-friendly operation with large touch display: The wide power supply range makes it ideal for global compatibility in various lab and industrial environments.
Fields of application are laboratories and research institutions for the calibration of condensation particle counters (CPC) and other aerosol instruments in compliance with ISO 27891:2015,ISO 15900:2020, EN 16976 and CEN/TS 17434, furthermore UN Regulations 49 and 83 and UN GTR 24 in the context of the particle measurement program for automotive emission and brake testing. Further areas of application include studies on particle charging and charge effects, particle transport and loss experiments as well as the determination of particle size distributions in the GRIMM SMPS+E scanning mobility particle sizer, using FCE 5705 as a detector.
