Flame Supervisor
Optical compact flame monitor

Compact and versatile flame scanner with Auto Learn functionality and intuitive control via the Flame Companion app for effortless operation. Designed for optical flame monitoring across all fuel types and multi-burner configurations.

Technology: Optical flame monitor with dual-channel architecture and SIL-3 certification. UV-Cell and Photdiode for detection of different fuels.

The DURAG Flame Supervisor is available in two versions:
  • D-LX 1100 (Rotary Switch version): For easy, manual settings with the use of rotary switches.
  • D-LX 2xxx (Select version): With multiple filters and Auto Learn function, and settings and analysis via the Flame Companion app.

BENEFITS (ALL VERSIONS)

  • Extended ambient temperature range
Certified performance across a wide range of temperatures – no need for insulation, heating, or cooling accessories.
  • Ready to connect
Combination with the Flame Companion app enables convenient and user-friendly operation of the Flame Supervisor via USB and Modbus.
  • Functional safety
Redundant channel operation ensures reliable performance in safety-critical applications (SIL 3).
  • Detection of all gas fuels
Ultraviolet UV cell in all device versions to ensure detection of gas fuels (H2-ready).
  • Flame signal
Configurable analog output for flame intensity and fault indication.
  • Safe landing
Dual-channel configuration, TÜV certified, ensuring continued safe operation for up to 22 hours and 50 minutes in the event of internal disruption.
  • Continuous flame monitoring
All Flame Supervisor versions equipped with photodiodes, collect data continuously (without shuttering or blind periods).
  • User-friendly operation
Flame Companion software (Android, Windows) enabling intuitive setup and operation of the flame scanner.
  • Local LED lights
Provides clear indication of operating status, flame presence (ON), current FFDT, flame intensity, Auto-Learn status, and optional Bluetooth connectivity.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS (SELECT VERSION)

  • Effortless setup and operation
Quick commissioning using Auto Learn function – just two buttons for a straightforward user experience.
  • Simplifies complex requirements
Comes with four preconfigured operating modes combining firing scenarios or fuel types, making setup easier and ensuring user-friendly operation.
  • Enhanced connectivity
In addition to the three communication channels Bluetooth, USB, and Modbus, the Select version comes with two analog outputs.
  • Dual-color detection for wide fuel ranges
Combined UV + IR photodiode sensors available in one device to detect fuels of almost all kinds (dusty, liquid, gaseous, chemicals, waste products).
  • Tailored monitoring
Auto Learn automatically generates the best settings. In combination with four ranges, optimum monitoring of the most variable and complex combustion situations is guaranteed.
  • Certified cybersecurity
The Flame Supervisor offers certification in accordance with IEC 62443-4-2 (parameter configuration is still available with the Flame Companion app).
  • Fiber optics based version (D-LX 27x0)
Flexible or rigid tube for complex conditions such as tilting burners, high temperatures in combustion chambers, space constraints or high vibrations.

The compact flame scanner is essential in any industry that relies on thermal energy which involves the use of a flame as part of its production process. This includes systems where energy is used to generate steam, hot water, hot air, or to transform product states (e.g., solid to liquid or gas), as well as in thermal decomposition processes like steam cracking in the petrochemical industry.

The DURAG Flame Supervisor is perfectly adapted for a large variety of burners, regardless of the manufacturing company. Excepting very small boilers or burners, where ionization flame supervisors are more adapted, the product fits almost everywhere.

Typical applications and use cases

  • Cement and building materials industry:
Used for flame monitoring in rotary kilns and calciner burners to ensure safe and efficient combustion. Helps to optimize fuel use, ensure product quality, and reduce downtime.
  • Power generation and utilities:
Ensures reliable flame detection in boilers, burners, gas turbines and duct burners, supporting safety systems and regulatory compliance in fossil fuel and biomass plants.
  • Metal and steel production:
Applied in reheat furnaces, ladle preheaters, and annealing furnaces to ensure consistent flame presence.
  • Food and beverage processing:
Provides safe flame control in industrial ovens and dryers, ensuring product quality and meeting strict hygiene and safety standards.
  • Industrial furnaces and kilns:
Ideal for diverse high-temperature processes, supporting precise control and early fault detection in thermal applications.
  • Oil and gas industry:
Used in process heaters and reformers to monitor flame stability in dirty and hazardous environments, ensuring safety and process reliability.
  • Petrochemical, refinery, and chemical plants:
Critical in high-risk zones for burner management in complex combustion systems - contributes to operational safety and compliance with SIL-3 and ATEX / FM EX requirements.
  • Pulp and paper manufacturing:
Deployed in steam boilers, recovery boilers and lime kilns to safeguard continuous processes and reduce unplanned outages.
  • Waste and hazardous waste incineration:
Ensures continuous flame supervision of the start-up burners regardless the fuel, supporting environmental compliance and efficient energy recovery.
  • Industries using alternative fuels (RDF/SRF):
Cement and building materials industry, Waste-to-energy (WtE) plants, Biomass and co-firing plants, Glass, ceramics, and lime production, etc. These fuels introduce unstable combustion characteristics. The compact flame scanner offers robust, interference-free flame detection for safe, efficient, and adaptive burner management.
